Transportation
Optimization and Routing
The
Transportation Optimization and Routing module, containing a patent-pending
multi-modal route optimization application, taps scheduled transport networks,
determines distance and total transit times, and selects optimal routings to
provide fastest possible and standard service, and lowest cost itineraries
between two points. The application optimizes across modes, finding the best
time-definite shipping option for the user and end-customer.
Business
rules incorporated to optimize and consolidate across multiple delivery networks
- Air
- LTL and Road Feeder
- TL
- Courier
- Cartage
- Parcel Express
- Rail
- Ocean

The
route selection component operates at the street level, and is backed by an
algorithm that determines and qualifies the optimal mode and carrier to be used
for shipments. Criteria considered:
- Universe
of terminals, hubs and airports around given origin and destination locations
and accompanying ground travel times
- Distance and travel times for pick-up and delivery to and from specified
terminals
- Carrier on-time reliability on specified routes
- Carrier back-up route options in case of delays or last minute
cancellations
- Sophisticated
network monitoring tools embedded in system providing current status on
shipments in transit, tied to dynamic re-routing application when needed
For
a given shipment or order, additional services or legs may be added, beyond
those determined at the time of booking, through the advanced service workflow
capability.
Dynamic
Multi-Stop Routing
The Dynamic Multi-Stop Routing capability enables the creation of optimal multi-stop
runs, both from a scheduled order and dynamic order perspective. Users can dynamically accommodate
unplanned orders and re-optimize a route plan, ensuring that all stops are made
within allowable windows. The
routing algorithm optimizes based on total distance, time traveled, and many
other factors/parameters. Buffers
between stops are configurable at the individual shipment or macro route plan
level.
Driver
and Vehicle Optimization
The routing engine will also consider many attributes of the Driver, Vehicle, and
Customer when determining the optimal combination for single or multiple route
shipping scenarios. These
include:
- Customer Service Windows
- Driver/Vehicle Service Windows
- Minutes to Service per stop
- Driver Assignment rules
- Stop Dependencies
- Stop Vehicle and Driver Requirements
- Vehicle Type and Capacity
- Activity Type
