Nextjet Extends Expertise in Field Service Logistics to Wireless Platform for Mobile Resource Management

Nextjet Wireless Platform Boosts Field Tech and Driver Productivity within tight Service Level Agreement Operating Environments

DALLAS, Texas (July 21, 2004) – Nextjet TechnologiesSM, proven provider of end-to-end transportation and logistics management software, today announced the expansion of its overall platform to support extensive mobile resource management processes across an array of wireless devices and networks, including Nextel®, BlackBerry®, Symbol®, and J2ME® phones. In line with overall transportation and field service industry trends, Nextjet has responded to its customers’ mobile resource management needs to cost-effectively make best use of their driver and field technician resources while providing end-customers greater visibility on the status of inbound shipments and repair orders.

Through its Nextjet Mobile Resource Management (NextjetMobileRM) application, the Nextjet optimizes the utilization of drivers and their vehicles through intelligent dispatching capabilities that incorporate GPS-based location data and current route detail, dynamically incorporating additional stops while still meeting existing route plan commitments. Moreover, the Nextjet wireless platform pushes detailed shipment data to drivers and field tech resources, while also enabling these resources to update the master Nextjet Transportation Management System on the progress of shipments across all stages of pick-up, transport and delivery activities. Specific functionality available to fleet drivers, independent contractors, and field technicians on the wireless platform includes:

• Review tendered shipment/load details
• Accept or reject tendered shipment/load
• Receive dispatch notifications or alerts
• Update shipment status—pickup, in-transit, and delivery—incorporating bar-code scans
• Add accessorial charges

“Nextjet has made significant progress in its ability to leverage affordable and highly reliable wireless networks and devices as part of its overall solution offering,” noted Paul Orsak, Nextjet chief technology officer. “Our wireless offering extends intelligent dispatching and mobile resource optimization capabilities to a user pool where these tools were previously unfeasible due to device standardization and network subscription cost barriers.”

Initial customer response to the Nextjet Wireless Platform has been overwhelmingly positive. Consistent with the overall web-native, J2EE Nextjet solution architecture, Nextjet has adopted an open-standards approach to its integration and support of a host of wireless networks and communication devices. Nextjet interfaces directly with Java-enabled phones by deploying NextjetMobileRM, a Java MIDlet application to them. Nextjet MobileRM provides an option to incorporate a Symbol barcode scanner phone attachment. The MIDlet records scanned codes and caches the information until communication with the Nextjet Transportation Management server is available.

NextjetMobileRM also has the ability to utilize embedded GPS capabilities of Motorola® iDEN phones using the Nextjet network. The MIDlet broadcasts the GPS position of mobile resources to the Nextjet Transportation Management System at configurable intervals. The NextjetMobileRM application provides a real-time, drill-down map, web- based interface to track the positioning of these GPS enabled mobile resources, which in turn, ties into the Nextjet Route Optimization engine to ensure optimal selection of drivers and vehicles to fulfill specific shipments within overall routes.

Through its latest wireless communication and mobile resource management extensions, the overall Nextjet Transportation and Logistics management solution achieves unparalleled dynamic route optimization and in-transit shipment consolidation opportunities for its customers. These enhancements enable Nextjet clients to achieve greater utilization of their driver and field tech resources, accomplishing more per worker day. Moreover, Nextjet-enabled real-time, electronic communication at the driver and field-tech level minimizes manual errors while heightening customer visibility on time-sensitive shipments in their supply chain.
